The corridor

Three yards on the Thiruvarur–Pattukkottai line

The metre-gauge line between Thiruvarur and Pattukkottai was converted to broad gauge. At three of its station yards, the entire passenger-facing station — building, platforms and amenities — was constructed new under this package.

The work

A whole station is more than a building.

When a line is converted from metre gauge to broad gauge, its stations are effectively rebuilt. This package covered everything a passenger touches at Thiruthuraipoondi, Thillaivilagam and Muthupet: the station buildings themselves, passenger platforms and goods platforms, platform shelters, foot over bridges, toilets, drainage, cycle stands and the approach roads that connect each station to its town.

The Letter of Acceptance set a ten-month milestone programme, with the contract liable to termination if the first two milestones slipped — a schedule that demanded parallel working across all three yards. Structural work, steel shelter erection, finishing trades and external development ran side by side, and the Deputy Chief Engineer, Construction–III, Tiruchchirappalli certified the work as completed satisfactorily on 24.07.2019 with no dues outstanding.

Rates were founded on USSOR 2011 schedules across four annexures, tendered through IREPS e-tender 34-CE-CN-MS-2016-OT (MTK-118).

Contract attribution The Letter of Acceptance No. W.496/MTK/118/CN (7904) dt. 24.05.2017 was issued by Southern Railway to Sri A. Venku Reddy, Hyderabad. KCK Infra Projects, Kadapa executed the complete work as sub-contractor on a back-to-back basis under agreement dt. 01.06.2017, deploying its own finance, men, material and machinery.

Scope of work

Nine trades, three yards, one programme

The subject line of the Letter of Acceptance reads like a checklist of everything a small station needs. Each element below was constructed at each of the three yards.

RCC-framed station buildings with booking, waiting and service areas, entrance porticoes and platform-side verandas.

New broad-gauge passenger platforms with finished surfacing and painted platform edges.
